Nocturne

I want to enter your sleep
and lie with you
like the moon, flooding you
in bright geometry
of calm, cool space

I want to enter the architecture
of your womb
where time is made
and your pulse
beats back the black wave

I want to wake with you
and walk with you into the night
learn from you the cold
black language of the night
looking up into star fields
feeling the long rhythm of light
in your body
your arms folded over me
like wings

And when we are old and gone
I want to sail with you
down the great river on its floes
of melting ice
our white ship sinking under green
while I tell you the long
quiet story of the night
and whisper into the seashell
curve of your ear
the calm echo of our sleep
