Lately I have been reading (sometimes re-reading) ancient texts, such as The Epic of Gilgamesh, which I commented on in the previous post. I realize there may not be any audience for these musings, but I have to read what interests me. However, sometimes I pick up something more current, or write something to try out a scene from my novel in progress, A Prince of Myrgalen. So, a teaser but also a spoiler alert: this dialog is from my journal, from an as yet unwritten scene late in the story, so much may change before I actually get to that point.
“Then he turned and said to me, placing his right hand upon my heart, ‘But I do love you with all my soul, and always have. Have we not shared our inmost thoughts and fears? I saved you once, but you have walked by my side and saved me from failing in my task many times when my resolve was weak. I could not desire a truer companion.’ Then I was ashamed that I had wanted less from him, to be other than he was, so I kissed his hand, and gave it back.”
